Portrait photography and Lastolite

In 2014 wilde ik mij, naast het maken van sportfoto’s voor o.a. sv Orderbos, ook gaan focussen op het maken van portretten. Een ruim budget en grote ruimte om een grote studio te bouwen had ik niet, dus moest ik opzoek naar betaalbare en lichtgewicht spullen om gemakkelijk ergens een studio op te kunnen bouwen. Na heel wat research op internet en het inwinnen van informatie bij professionele camerawinkels, kwam ik uiteindelijk uit bij het merk Lastolite. Hiervan kocht ik een softbox met een omvang van 54cmx54cm en 22cmx22cm, welke in combinatie met mijn externe flitsers gebruikt konden worden.

Zoals ik ook al in een eerdere blog over the Lastolite softboxen schreef: De Lastolite Ezybox Hotshoe kit is een eenvoudig lichtgewicht softbox, waarmee je in combinatie met je flitser een mooi belichte foto krijgt. Doordat de softbox gemakkelijk op te vouwen is en het statief, wat erbij geleverd wordt, licht van gewicht is neem je het zo overal mee naar toe zodat je in een mum van tijd en op elk gewenste locatie een kleine studio kan bouwen voor het maken van een mooi portret. In 2014 I wanted to focus, among sport photography, also on portrait photography. I had no large budget, even a big room to build a studio. So I had to look for affordable and lightweight items to easily build a studio. After a lot of research on the internet and gathering information of professional camera stores, I ended up with the Lastolite brand. From this I bought a soft box with a size of 54cmx54cm and 22cmx22cm, which could be used in combination with my external flash units.

As I wrote earlier in a blog about the Lastolite softboxen: The Lastolite Ezybox Hotshoe Kit is an easy and light softbox that makes, in combination with a flash, nice portrait photos. Because it is easy to fold up and the light tripod (that you get when you buy it) You can build, everywhere you go, your own studio to take nice portrait photos. Fotografie is leren… Jezelf elke dag blijven uitdagen en ontwikkelen!

Ongeveer 3 jaar geleden werd mij gevraagd om een aantal acties en algemene foto’s te maken voor de website van de tafeltennisclub TTV De Veluwe Apeldoorn. Zo ben ik in 2016 begonnen met het maken van mijn allereesrte tafeltennis foto’s. Het was hard werken om de juiste foto’s te maken, vanwege het weinige licht en het snelle spel. Toen ik huis kwam, na mij eerste shoot, was ik dan ook best tevreden met het resultaat. Naarmate ik deze sport vaker ben gaan fotograferen in combinatie met het bekijken van andere tafeltennis en indoor sportfoto’s van andere fotografen, zag ik mezelf steeds beter worden. De belichting en compositie zijn nu een stuk beter dan in mijn eerste opnames.

Een paar weken geleden heb ik opnieuw naar mijn gemaakte series gekeken en voelde dat mijn witbalans toch niet zo goed was. Met mijn kennis van nu zie ik dat ik er iets te veel rood in had. Dus begon ik een aantal oude foto’s opnieuw te bewerken en ik ben nu gelukkiger met de resultaten.

Photography is learning…. Challenge and develop yourself every day!

Almost 3 years ago I was asked to make some actions and overall shots for the website of the table tennis club TTV De Veluwe Apeldoorn. Thats how I started in 2016 taking my first table tennis shots. It was hard working to get the right photos that I want, due to the low light and the fast game. When I came home, after my first shoot, I was very happy with the result. After shooting this sport more often in combination with looking to other table tennis and indoor sports photos from other photographers, I felt to become better and better. The lighting and composition are now a lot better than in my first shots.

A few weeks ago I looked to my series again and felt that my white balance was not that good. With the knowledge today, It seems that Ihad too much red in it. So I started to edit some old photos again, and now I am happier with the results.
